The Practice provides an extensive range of medical services at Birchgrove Surgery and a more limited range of services at the branch surgery in Rhiwbina Clinic.

General Medical Services

The Practice provides essential medical services as defined in the General Medical Services contract to registered patients and temporary residents

  • who are, or believe themselves to be ill with conditions from which recovery is generally expected; terminally ill; suffering from chronic disease
  • appropriate ongoing treatment and care, including the provision of advice in connection with the patient's health, including health promotion advice; the referral of the patient for other services

  • Holiday vaccinations - the Practice Nurses provide advice, and a range of holiday vaccinations.
  • Carers - Gaynor Jones, the Reception Team Leader is our Carers Champion. Gaynor is able to provide information and advice for carers

Medical Services - Attached Staff

A number of services are provided for the surgery by attached or visiting staff.

  • Community Nurses - the community nurses are available to visit housebound patients. They are based at Rhiwbina Clinic, and can be contacted on 02920 444501, or via the Surgery on 02920 522344.
  • Health Visitor - health visitors are available to provide advice on family healthcare. They run a weekly clinic on Mondays between 14:00 – 15:00 in Rhiwbina Clinic where they are also based. They can be contacted on 02920 613685, or via the Surgery on 02920 522344
  • Midwife - the midwife runs a weekly ante-natal clinic at Rhiwbina Clinic. Appointments may be made by calling the surgery appointments line 02920 522344
  • Mental Health Liason - appointments are available with mental health professionials without the need to speak to your GP. If you feel you are struggling and would like to discuss strategies to help you get back on track, please call our reception team and ask to book in.
  • MSK - we have a physio team who offer both face to face and telephone consultations. You are able to self refer to this service by calling our reception team. See here for more information.
  • Phlebotomist - there is a Phlebotomist at Birchgrove Surgery for 5 sessions a week. Patients recommended to make an appointment for a blood test by their GP can do so at reception, or by ringing the appointments line 02920 522344
